The goods went long, well, very long, the end of summer, no longer needed watering

very durable plastic but outer diameter is too large for the small diameter (4mm) hoses typically used in drip irrigation. Use hoses with 6mm diameter or if you only have 4mm hose, Stretch open the hose with a flat screwdriver to temporarily enlarge hose to help it slide onto connector. I have used MISTER LANDSCAPER (thick wall vinyl) 1/4 inch hose (4 mm inner diameter) with these and using a screwdriver to stretch open the hose, it will slide onto the connectors with some pushing! I recommend using hoses with a 6mm inner diameter.
